About IIT Kharagpur
IIT Kharagpur was established in 1950, it is popularly known as IIT KGP. It is one of the topmost institutes of India with a ranking of 7 in the NIRF list. It is ranked 4th in India and 215 globally according to the QS world ranking. The academic programs offered at IIT KGP are B.Tech. (15 programs), B.Arch, Dual Degree (35 programs), MBA, MHRM, LLB, MMST, MCP, M.Sc/ M.Tech/ MS (67 programs) and PhD programs.
For admission to BTech courses, a candidate must qualify JEE Mains exam and appear for JEE Advanced. MTech admissions are based on GATE scores. Admission for MTech for this year has closed, GATE applications for 2026 will start from August, 2025 and the exam will be conducted in February 2026. For BTech admissions, JoSAA counseling is almost at its conclusion, the registered candidates can check their cutoff from the official site.

Dear student, The IIT Kharagpur does offer Joint MSc PhD Programmes in Molecular Medical Microbiology, Medical Physics, and Nuclear Medicine. These courses are offered under the Head School of Medical Science and Technology. Currently, the Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine courses at IIT Kharagpur are paused because the courses have pending Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) approval.
